The Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives of BSS MFI for fiscal year 2023-24 focus on rural development, healthcare, education and emergency relief. These efforts are in line with our vision of empowering underserved communities by offering sustainable and impactful solutions. Below are the key initiatives undertaken this year.
Livestock plays a critical role in rural livelihoods, providing food, revenue and employment. In times of crop failure, livestock serves as a form of insurance. The number of livestock owned often reflects a farmer’s social status in rural communities, with two-thirds of rural population relying on livestock for their livelihood.
To support this vital sector, we launched a Livestock Development Program, which focuses on:
The initiative directly impacted 15,874 families across 171 villages in the Mandya and Chamrajnagara districts, benefiting a total 33,855 cattle. Additionally, 1,100 farmers now have secured sustainable green fodder availability. The establishment of 16 fodder nurseries will ensure the program’s continued expansion and sustainability.
BSS MFI is also committed to improving educational infrastructure, which plays a key role in encouraging student attendance and fostering long- term community development. Many schools, particularly in rural areas, lack even basic facilities.
In response, BSS MFI provided essential materials such as benches, desks, tables, and chairs to selected schools in Karnataka, Bihar, Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh, and Maharashtra.
During the fiscal year 2023-24year, support extended to 47 Govt. Schools.
BSS MFI is determined to transform healthcare access for underserved rural communities, particularly in the face of rising non-communicable diseases (NCDs) like cardiovascular conditions, diabetes, and respiratory ailments, which account for 60% of all deaths in India. This issue is exacerbated by healthcare divide between urban and rural areas, despite 86% of clinical interactions occurring in rural regions.
To address this disparity, BSS MFI launched Medical Mobile Unit (MMU) initiative in collaboration with Apollo Telemedicine Networking Foundation (ATNF). The MMU provides teleconsultations and doorstep healthcare delivery. The Program also focuses on eye screening, distributing spectacles, offering nutritional support to pregnant women and malnourished children, and raising awareness about healthcare.
In 2023-24, the MMU operated in 48 villages (24 each in Chitradurga District, Karnataka, and Mandla district, Madhya Pradesh), benefiting over 16,000 individuals.
In addition to ongoing initiatives, BSS MFI also provides support during natural disasters. In response to emergencies, BSS MFI distributed food kits, water filters, and provided moral support to affected families. During 2023-24, relief was extended to 2,200 families in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.
Through these diverse CSR initiatives, BSS MFI continues to make a meaningful impact on rural livelihoods, healthcare access, and educational facilities.
Besides their monetary benefit and providing a steady stream of food and revenues for households, livestock provide employment to the rural family; act as insurance during crop failures and the number of livestock owned by a farmer determine the social status among the community. Livestock provides livelihood to two-third of rural community.
With this backdrop, initiated a program on Livestock Development. Under livestock development emphasis was give on breed improvement through conventional and sorted sex semen, animal nutrition, animal health, fodder production and clean milk production as its secondary source of income for the farmer. In addition, livelihood support extended for small ruminants. Project implemented in Mandya and Chamrajnagara districts in 127 villages, which benefitted to 33,855 cattle belonging to 15,576 families.
To improve the infrastructure at Govt. Veterinary Hospital, a hospital located at Belgola in Mandya dist. Through financial extended for new borewell- digging and installation, animal Examination Centre, Toilet, Sump and Campus Beautification. Veterinary hospital caters the services to 11 villages, benefits to 1,410 cattle, 200 pigs and 1,100 goats.
Several researches have proved that good infrastructure encourages kids to attend school more regularly than the ones without any good facilities. At other hand due to lack of resources most of the schools does not have minimum infrastructures. Therefore provided school essential materials such as benches, desks, tables, and chairs for selected Schools of Karnataka, Bihar, Tamilnadu, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra state.
